This piece is a drawing of the lantern in the woods, from Narnia. I used construction paper, Cardboard, charcoal, Colored pencil, and little white sprinkles.
What is the point of this class? WHat did you get out of it?
I belive that this class is a great experience for anyone who is interested in art, or even if you aren't interested in art. This class gave me new skills and knowledge about art that i was completely unaware of until i started the class. Not only did we discuss different and many techniques to use when creating art, but we also learned and discussed about much of the history for different art styles and figures. The class really opened up a greater understanding of "art", in general for me. I can now look at a piece and say, " They used charcoal pencils, and water coloring at the top, and it looks as this piece is inspired from one of Roy lichtensteins most famous work". To me, that knowledge is education at its best. Going into a class not knowing what to expect, or wanting to draw a couple stick figures, and coming out of it with more information than i could have ever imagined while signing up for this class. Great experience!
WHat is art?
Art... a visual expression, of emotional feelings. Art can be meaningless, or it can be an artist trying to get a point across to a wide audience. Taking a piece of paper, gathering materials, and physically putting your ideas on paper with the flick of the wrist. I believe Art is often overlooked by many, you may walk into a museum and see a cool picture and think, "wow that looks really cool!" But next time you see a cool piece look below it and read the fine script, explaining the actual meaning of the piece. If there is no script below, even better! It's your turn to figure it out, make theories, argue with your friends. That is the beauty of it... More than anything, art makes you think. That is the most powerful attribute of it. Yes it could be a pretty color on a wall, all the way to The Mona Lisa. No matter what, it makes you think. It brings people together, and it is beautiful and it is all around us. So, dont't runaway from it, pursue it! Let your creative capabilities reach the limit, and enjoy... Art!
Is copying always plagiarism or is there a gray area? Explain your thoughts.
I believe that if you are a famous artist and you have already made fame out of a piece and then someone, "copies" it then it should be taken as a flattering compliment. But there has been much contraversy over the years about whether or not a piece is "copied". I say, that it depends... If one artist were to create a piece, "INSPIRED" by another, with images that greatly reperesent or look alike the original, yet with some of their own work put in, added, or changing the piece then it is indeed, Not copying, but having an inspired piece. If an aritst were to flat out, trace or create a piece exactly alike, and make PROFIT, then it is then the legal matter of plagiarism. Otherwise it is to be an inspired piece like I said before. Unless you aboslutely 100% do not have any original ideas in the first place and cannot create an original piece, and must conform to an "inspired piece", then I suggest you create a piece out of your own ideas. It is alot more enjoyable and creative, and think about it, what if someone, "Copied" you!
For this Artist communicate journal page, I received the themes; Marker and Things that make me happy. For things that make me happy I used imagination and colors. I drew a marker and had different colors coming out of it with "Imagine" hidden in the colors. I used 3 mediums; Marker, Colored pencils, News paper/gel medium. I wanted the look of , dull words and colors going into a vibrant and creative space.
For this project, we had to choose an inspiration from the North Carolina museum of art. Then we had to make a piece using that inspiration and any of the mediums we have learned about. I constructed a 3D display of the famous painting "the scream". I used acrylic paint on playing cards layed out. Then I cut out pieced and hung them with fishing wire to create a force perspective from different angles.
For this project i constructed a "Marble drop" using various materials which include: Cardboard, Hot glue, Duck tape, Spray paint, wooden sticks, and more. I didn't solve any problem with my piece, it was an option to just make a fun and cool looking marble drop. I learned a lot about constructing things with many materials.
For this mini lesson we chose an artist that falls under a category of styles. The style that I had was "Pop Art". I chose the artist, Roy lichtenstein who is famous for many of his Pop Art stylized pieces. He is know for alot of his "comic" pieces. Which is where i got my inspiration for my piece. We had to use a random object we were given and incorporate it in with our artist and style. My object was "headphones" so i put an image of one of his pieces on the projector and traced and assigned colors onto a piece of drawing paper. I used the image to the right, to draw with my own materials and erase certain parts, then added a pair of headphones onto the character in the image's head.
This piece was very successful because i was able to trace easily, and remove parts of the image, by hand, to insert my own drawn pair of headphones. I learned alot about the technique of tracing. Sounds easy, but it really helps to write and almost "map out" what colors go where on your piece before you actually fill in. If there was one thing that i would go back and change it would be to actually model the headphones from an image on my phone instead of drawing right out of my head. All in all i learned probably the most i have ever before in this art class while doing this piece, mainly because of the research i did on roy lichtenstein and the style of pop art.
For this, me, Anna, Danny, Morgan, and Kiran, made a stop motion animation. We all collaborated on ideas, we all made cutouts, filmed and helped make the finished product. Together we Made a very creative video using tools like tripods, cutouts, and multiple cameras(phones). If you would like to watch the video copy and paste this link in your browser : https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLl2c1xsVYM6XymSCMD-khscXPc4cMt3HH
This was an artist assignment to call in and share something about "the one that got away". The artist then took all the recorded calls and made an installment piece where people can rest there heads on a desk and listen.
For this we Made a video using something called stop motion animation, which is basically taking a bunch of photos and moving objects around to create frames for a video. I learned that stop motion takes alot of patience and steady hands. This piece was successful because it came out the way I wanted it and according to my storyboard in my sketch book. If there is one thing g I would go back and change it would be to not rush a single frame just to get done, the more frames and small movements the smoother the video.
For this purpose while class made paper Origami fortune tellers which are going to be used in an artist collaboration between our teachers. I learned a lot about minions and how artists use helpers to create installations and other pieces.
