What is the point of this class? WHat did you get out of it?
I belive that this class is a great experience for anyone who is interested in art, or even if you aren't interested in art. This class gave me new skills and knowledge about art that i was completely unaware of until i started the class. Not only did we discuss different and many techniques to use when creating art, but we also learned and discussed about much of the history for different art styles and figures. The class really opened up a greater understanding of "art", in general for me. I can now look at a piece and say, " They used charcoal pencils, and water coloring at the top, and it looks as this piece is inspired from one of Roy lichtensteins most famous work". To me, that knowledge is education at its best. Going into a class not knowing what to expect, or wanting to draw a couple stick figures, and coming out of it with more information than i could have ever imagined while signing up for this class. Great experience! |
WHat is art?
Art... a visual expression, of emotional feelings. Art can be meaningless, or it can be an artist trying to get a point across to a wide audience. Taking a piece of paper, gathering materials, and physically putting your ideas on paper with the flick of the wrist. I believe Art is often overlooked by many, you may walk into a museum and see a cool picture and think, "wow that looks really cool!" But next time you see a cool piece look below it and read the fine script, explaining the actual meaning of the piece. If there is no script below, even better! It's your turn to figure it out, make theories, argue with your friends. That is the beauty of it... More than anything, art makes you think. That is the most powerful attribute of it. Yes it could be a pretty color on a wall, all the way to The Mona Lisa. No matter what, it makes you think. It brings people together, and it is beautiful and it is all around us. So, dont't runaway from it, pursue it! Let your creative capabilities reach the limit, and enjoy... Art! |
Is copying always plagiarism or is there a gray area? Explain your thoughts.
I believe that if you are a famous artist and you have already made fame out of a piece and then someone, "copies" it then it should be taken as a flattering compliment. But there has been much contraversy over the years about whether or not a piece is "copied". I say, that it depends... If one artist were to create a piece, "INSPIRED" by another, with images that greatly reperesent or look alike the original, yet with some of their own work put in, added, or changing the piece then it is indeed, Not copying, but having an inspired piece. If an aritst were to flat out, trace or create a piece exactly alike, and make PROFIT, then it is then the legal matter of plagiarism. Otherwise it is to be an inspired piece like I said before. Unless you aboslutely 100% do not have any original ideas in the first place and cannot create an original piece, and must conform to an "inspired piece", then I suggest you create a piece out of your own ideas. It is alot more enjoyable and creative, and think about it, what if someone, "Copied" you! |
